Manage, but not set up. Something tells me you had to do that part for them. And while pushing a button to start your VPN back up every time you want to access your remote service isn’t hard, it’s a nuisance that can be avoided in situations where it isn’t necessary in the first place.
I’m not a big fan of amateur know-nothings regurgitating the same nonsense regurgitated to them by previous know-nothings, attempting to further the cycle to people finding their footing with self hosting, telling everybody what they “should” do based on their own limited understabding. It was a big problem on the self hosted reddit and up to this point has been less of a problem here.

Don’t listen to this guy. You don’t have to turtle all your stuff inside a VPN if you don’t want to. Hosting services on the internet is what the internet was created for. It’s up to you whether what you want to host is exposed to the internet or not, and as long as you’re aware of the risks do what you want man. I will mention that Immich specifically might not be the best idea to expose since it’s so unstable, but that depends on your level of comfortability. Worst case scenario is somebody gets into your Immich and can see all your photos. Would this be a dealbreaker for you? If so don’t expose it publicly. Otherwise you’re perfectly fine.
Unless you’re on IOS that will shut your VPN off regularly. Or you want somebody else to be able to access what you’re hosting without having to walk theme through a VPN setup they won’t understand.
It’s just a spreadsheet system but it uses python under the hood so you can do some pretty cool stuff with it. You can use it to build a little item tracker for yourself to your own specifications.
For example I used it to make a system for tracking car maintenance. So there’s a sheet for managing car parts, a sheet for managing job types, a sheet for managing tools and then a main sheet I can use to add repair and maintenance jobs, quick add the parts I’m buying, tools I’m using etc and I’ll get a total cost and all.

A fairly new addition to the space. It’s functionally very similar to Memos, but with more flashy features. The creator began the project because they liked memos but wanted some more features.
You have to feed it an OpenAI key. You can deactivate it by not giving it the OpenAI key.
I’ve never seen a CyberPower not cut power to its battery ports when the battery failed, which I’ve seen dozens of times since the failure rate on them was bordering on the absurd. When contacting CyberPower to warranty them, they told us that was normal and that the units were designed that way.
The problem is when you do, instead of their units continuing to power your devices via power from the wall, they shut off power to all their battery ports. So CyberPower battery units can and will cause outages for your devices without you even having a power outage event. It’s a critical design flaw their competitors don’t share.
Despite your odd luck with batteries, CyberPower has an issue that disqualifies it from use personally or professionally for me, which is that if there’s a problem with the battery, which there too often is, a CyberPower will cut power to the entire unit, even if it’s still receiving power from the wall outlet.
With an APC, at least if the battery dies your devices stay on.
An APC from wherever. Just don’t buy a CyberPower. They’re much cheaper for a reason and cause more downtime than they save.
Someone’s not really going to “get into” your virtual machine through a simple web server serving static files. Though it’s not impossible that you have some vulnerability with your web server software that allows for remote code execution on it, at which point its ability to do anything outside of that machine depends on a lot of things. If you’re exposing things to the public but don’t like the idea of the public interacting with machines on your home network, your best bet is to just host this on a VPS itself.
Well what “danger” are you talking about exactly? Traffic being forwarded to a port is not a danger. If the traffic being forwarded is going to a web server, proxying the exact same traffic through a different web server beforehand isn’t going to be any different.
He’s serving a static html file, there isn’t much in the way of danger here that would be solved by Tailscale.
This is nice to have, but it should be noted that doing it this way doesn’t mitigate much in the way of danger.
Yeah maybe you should take notes on how to relay a little bit of relevant knowledge in the context of what it is they’re trying to do, and let them decide how it fits their use case, instead of repeating broad, inaccurate generalizations dictating what people should and shouldn’t do across the board.
If you’re not going to be helpful or informative, then don’t bother chiming in at all.
